OCTOI~E~ 31, 1957 AREA SADDLE CLUBS ARE SUBJECT FOR CANTER MAGAZINE ARTICLE October's Canter Magazine -- official publication of the Wash. ington Sta~e Horsemen's Assn. -- features a history of the lVLid- Columbia saddle clt~bs by W. H. McNeal of The Dallas. The article states that there have been 27 such clubs from Vancouver, Wash. to Arlington, Oregon in the pasb 20 years; and 22 of them are still active. Say. en of the clubs were junior or. ganizations under ~he 4-H pro. gram. Membership has totaled 1162 riders. This figure does not in. clude another 1000 saddle horse owners who do Mot belong to any clt~b. Saddle horse stock in th~s area includes Arabians, quar. ter horses, Thoroughbreds, Ten- nessee Walkers, American sad- dlers, Palominos, Apaloosas and "just plain Indian cayuses a.~d barnyard crossbreeds."
